Here I am again, romanticising 3 AM. The fire in your den lights up just to the thick black curtain that holds all the mysteries of the night. What is out there? Are you alone in this den? Do you need more people to start your tribe or are you up, protecting them from the strangers in the night? Do you need to give a safe haven to some of these lost souls wandering the deep depths of this world of yours?
Isn't it interesting how we just connect to people that seem to be strangers? We feel silly for thinking it might be that this person is just something new and shiny, maybe even a new element we get to inspect. It's not like us to usually obsess over something new, is it? But that's exactly it and sometimes it can be a terrible thing. Overexposure to something you don't completely understand could be detrimental to your health in the end. The other side of the same coin is true too at least. Sometimes things are entirely made of blissfilled moments with a stranger, there's nothing but up with these people. A person you can imagine peering into the depths of the universe with for an eternity.
We are all explorers though, looking to see if the stars can lead us home, looking to see if they reveal our true North. Funniest thing about needing to find your true North is that you need to get lost first and that's the part that scares a lot of people out of going on the adventure in the first place. Navigating the great cerebral forests, desserts and tundras still get you somewhere at least but you can't find your destination if you never answer the call to action. After all, we are seeing you as the protagonist in this instance, aren't we?
What does it mean to be a hero though? Are we trying to save a damsel in distress or are we trying to save ourselves and everyone else from the ever growing antagonist that we made? I think that sometimes that antagonist can even be ourselves, we do know our own weaknesses don't we? Wouldn't it be the easiest thing to defeat yourself, good or bad, and be free of the worry? Maybe all we want is good to prevail though, maybe we just want everyone to be safe, especially the damsel that proved she didn't need any saving at all. I guess everyone has their own stories to tell in the end.
Here I am again, demonising 3 AM. The night is too quiet, even the pins are afraid to make a sound when they fall. I guess it has brought a lot of revelations to the quiet ones, as the night starts to come to an end. The sun isn't far from rising and the protectors of the den can get to rest a bit from protecting everyone from the mysteries of the night and hopefully you're not the one waiting for the dawn to come and the protectors to go to rest their weary hearts.
